Hello everyone! Just want to say thanks for visiting our site.

My name is Jacob Philipps and I am the drummer for Rusted River.

I have been playing about 25 years in total. I started when I was 12 years old on a set of kleenex boxes with bran new unsharpened pencils for drum sticks. My family, in particular my grandmother noticed my obsession but as she was a pianist she preferred that I play piano as well. We made a deal that I would start taking piano lessons again and she would buy me the 600 dollar jewel of a drum set I had picked out in the Sears catalog. I agreed and began piano lessons, she kept her end and bought the drum set. 6 months later I dropped the piano lessons and never looked back!

She eventually forgave me and from then on my focus was on the drums. I do play some piano and some guitar but the drums are without a doubt where my abilities lie. I started as a traditional grip drummer at first with a single kick drum. Then I discovered Alex Van Halen, Tommy Aldridge, Lars, and many more. Four years into things I had changed to matched grip and had a double pedal.

I like a variety of music from country to heavy metal. I enjoy playing as many different types of music as much as I like listening to a variety of types. I believe that all the members in the band are well rounded in our listening habits. I think that fact contributes to the uniqueness of our sound and the level of our emotion. Everyone in the band has experienced a variety of life lessons and trials. We’ve all lived through and survived our fair share of triumphs and tragedies in our lives. These things have made us the people we are today and I believe these experiences are reflected in the music we create.
